Electromobility is not just a business, it's a global trend.
For the past 10 years or so, the global electromobility sector has been experiencing strong growth, with a strong continuation forecast for the next two decades. The burgeoning automotive sector represents, on the one hand, an adaptive challenge for traditional automotive (ICE) participants, but also a chance to build new value.
Government plans for electromobility
The government's target has been clearly defined - 1 million electric cars and 50,000 charging stations by 2025 in Poland (a 15-fold increase from 2021).
A long-term perspective
The Polish market for electric car sales will grow by PLN 11 billion per year in the next four years, followed by PLN 20 billion and PLN 32 billion per year in 2025-2030 and 2030-2040, respectively. PSPA's long-term forecast indicates an upward trend in the contribution of the electromobility sector to Polish GDP. Depending on the adopted scenario, electromobility's share of Poland's GDP could reach from 1.7% to 2.7% as early as 2025, from 2.0 to 4.0% in 2030, from 2.6% to 5.2% in 2040 and from 2.9% to 5.7% in 2050.
Minimum 49-fold increase
Projections for Poland on the number of BEVs presented by PSPA (Polish Alternative Fuels Association) in Polish EV Outlook 2022 indicate that: in the 2030 horizon (relative to 2021), the number of BEVs in Poland will increase 49 times; in the 2040 horizon - 155 times.
33% of electric cars in the world
Bloomberg New Energy Finance forecasts that electric cars will account for 33% of the 1.6 billion cars in 2040.
AFIR assumptions: How will the latest regulations affect the development of electromobility in Poland?
What is AFIR? AFIR (Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation) is a new European Union regulation that, for the first time ever, will impose binding infrastructure construction targets for electric vehicles, including trucks. Each member state will have to meet its infrastructure construction target, an obligation to increase the total capacity of publicly available charging stations for each newly registered all-electric car (by 1.3 kW) and each newly registered plug-in hybrid (by 0.8 kW). Here are the key assumptions:
1
The EU will build 1 million charging points by 2025: 350,000 normal (AC), 350,000 fast (DC).
2
In cities with more than 20,000 residents, at least 10% of parking spaces in paid parking zones will be equipped with charging stations.
3
Stations every 60 km on trans-European routes, and on less important highways and expressways - maximum every 100 km.
4
New opportunities for trucking: 166 charging zones with a capacity of 3.6 MW each will be built by 2030.
5
Clearly defined minimum standards to ensure efficient charging infrastructure in EU countries.
6
Infrastructure accessibility requirements for people with disabilities.
7
Enabling payment for recharging with payment cards, eliminating the need for dedicated apps or RFID cards.

Poland must accelerate the expansion of charging infrastructure
Taking into account the projected very dynamic development of the e-mobility market in Poland, this means that in about 2 years the capacity of the charging infrastructure in Poland will have to increase more than 2 times compared to 2022. It will be important to apply solutions to stimulate the rationalization of energy consumption by electric vehicles during peak hours and to prevent exceeding the permissible charging power in specific locations.
Why invest in electric vehicle charging stations?
Demand for electric vehicle charging stations is growing. This trend will continue, creating a stable market for investors. Charging stations have low maintenance costs (mainly related to electricity and maintenance), making them a low-risk investment with the potential for high returns. In addition, by supporting electric vehicles, you contribute to reducing CO2 emissions and improving air quality, which promotes a clean and sustainable future.
How to get started?
Be ready to make changes before the market forces you to.
Feeling hesitant about choosing a station, and is power selection a problem?
Worried about the number of procedures, and don't have time to deal with documentation?
Do you want to handle all the settlements, but you lack people to do the work?
